Velvet wearing her new GG Muzzle 2_edited_edited_edited_edited.jpg

GreenGuard Grazing Muzzles

I started using grazing muzzles a few years ago when Velvet was pre-laminitic. I didn't have the option to dry lot & feed hay, and I wanted an efficient solution that didn't reduce natural movement.

After researching many different types of grazing muzzles, I settled on GreenGuard because it doesn't hold moisture, has tons of airflow, and encourages natural grazing. Now 4 of our horses wear them every day and have lost so much extra weight!

Classic Equine Cinches

I'm a big believer in natural fibers for girths. My personal favorites are made by Classic Equine. I recommend the roper cinch for a horse with a wide chest and a straight for a horse with a narrower chest (think TB, Arab, Pony).

Classic Equine Mohair - roper cinch

Classic Equine Blended Mohair - straight cinch

Another great option is fleece. These cinches have covered buckles, which is great for horses who are more sensitive and need extra protection.

Classic Equine SensorFlex - roper cinch

Classic Equine SensorFlex - straight cinch

Girths I do not recommend are any made of neoprene or synthetic blends as these are not breathable.

    Saddle Pads

Saddle fit is greatly affected by your saddle pad. It can either help or hinder your horse. These are some of my go-tos! Keep in mind that size, thickness, and contour are individual to your horse, rider ability, and saddle type.

    Premium pick: ThunderCloud

    Overall pick: Classic Equine ESP

Budget-friendly pick: Classic Equine Performance Trainer

Pads I do not recommend are any containing neoprene, gels, built-in shims, or shoulder-relief as these are not breathable and can create pressure points.

      HayPlay Slow-Feed Bags

Easy-to-fill, simple to hang, and no netting. We especially love using the small tie bags for travelling. The horses have no trouble eating hay without wearing their teeth on rough netting. The HayPlay Bags come in 4 sizes!
